The U.S. Cyber Trust Mark Initiative, announced on January 7, 2025, introduces a voluntary labeling system that helps consumers spot smart devices meeting federal cybersecurity standards. This new label — featuring a shield logo and QR codes for accessing detailed security information — will appear on products such as baby monitors, home security cameras, fitness trackers, and even refrigerators, much like the Energy Star program highlights energy efficiency.

Major companies including Amazon, Google, and Samsung are backing the initiative to drive improvements in cybersecurity. By empowering consumers with a clear indicator of a product’s cybersecurity strength, the program aims to reduce hacking risks for the ever-growing number of internet-connected devices in homes and encourage manufacturers to enhance security features.
