The Indy Arts Council, in partnership with the WNBA All-Star 2025 Host Committee and funded by the Marion County Capital Improvement Board, is spearheading a public art initiative to honor basketball legend Tamika Catchings. The mural, which will grace Mass Ave in Indianapolis, is part of the city’s vibrant preparations for the WNBA All-Star game scheduled for July 18 and 19, 2025. Catchings, who dedicated her entire 16-year career to the Indiana Fever, will join the ranks of other local basketball icons including Reggie Miller, Larry Bird, Tyrese Haliburton, Caitlin Clark, and Pascal Siakam.
The public is being invited to review and contribute feedback on four proposed designs, ensuring the final artwork reflects the community’s passion for the sport. This creative project underscores Indianapolis’ ongoing love for basketball and its commitment to celebrating local sports legends through thoughtful public art. Earlier initiatives, such as the call for mural artists in December 2024, have highlighted the city’s collaborative approach in honoring its icons while also supporting local artistic talent.
