On March 23, 2025, in Rafah, Gaza, phone footage emerged that contradicts the Israeli military’s version of events. The video shows ambulances with flashing lights and visible logos slowly approaching a previously attacked vehicle, despite claims that the vehicles lacked emergency markings and were acting suspiciously. Over five minutes, the footage captures intense gunfire as medics emerged from their vehicles.
Survivor Munzer Abed testified that Israeli troops suddenly opened fire, dragged him out, beat him, and interrogated him. Various accounts, including those from a Palestinian paramedic and the Palestinian Red Crescent, confirmed that 15 emergency workers — including eight Red Crescent workers, six Civil Defense staff, and a U.N. employee — were killed. Although the Israeli military later retracted its claim regarding the absence of emergency signals, they maintained that the vehicles had been approaching in a manner deemed suspicious. The incident remains under investigation, with calls from humanitarian organizations for an independent probe into what is being described as yet another attack on health workers in Gaza.
