In April 2025, the NHL and Rogers Communications finalized a landmark 12-year Canadian media rights deal valued at CAD $11 billion (approximately USD $7.7 billion). The agreement, which starts with the 2026 season following the expiry of the previous contract, grants Rogers national rights across TV, digital, and streaming platforms. It covers regular season games, regional out-of-market games, playoffs, the Stanley Cup Final, and special events, and includes strategic sub-licensing such as national French-language broadcasts and exclusive single-night national packages.
Rogers CEO Tony Staffieri highlighted the strong financial performance of the previous deal, noting a 50% increase in viewership along with significant revenue growth from advertising, subscriptions, and sub-licensing. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman emphasized the mutual desire to extend the successful partnership, which comes amid a broader context of increasing investments in live sports media. Similar lucrative agreements have been seen in the United States, reinforcing the growing importance of live sports content in today's competitive media landscape.
