LA Philharmonic Makes Historic Desert Debut at Coachella

In April 2025, the Los Angeles Philharmonic made history by bringing classical music to the iconic Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Under the baton of Venezuelan maestro Gustavo Dudamel, the orchestra opened with Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyries,” setting the tone for a performance that bridged traditional symphonic work with modern musical expressions.

The concert featured dynamic collaborations across genres, including jazz-pop singer Laufey debuting “Silver Lining,” Becky G performing “Shower,” and country star Maren Morris presenting “My Church” with a predominantly Black choir. Adding to the eclectic mix, DJ Zedd played his hit “Clarity” on piano, and LL Cool J energized the crowd with his rendition of “Mama Said Knock You Out.” This groundbreaking event, held on April 13, 2025, marked a memorable moment in festival history as Dudamel prepares for his transition to the New York Philharmonic in 2026.
