Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto announced on April 9, 2025, that Indonesia is ready to provide temporary shelter for up to 1,000 Palestinians affected by the Gaza conflict. The initiative will evacuate wounded individuals, medical evacuees, and traumatized orphans, who will receive care in the country until they are fit to return to Gaza. Importantly, this program is not a resettlement effort but a short-term humanitarian refuge for recovery.
In addition to making these concrete arrangements at home, Subianto has directed his foreign affairs minister to work with Palestinian authorities on the evacuation logistics. He plans to further discuss supportive measures during a weeklong Middle East tour that includes stops in the UAE, Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, and Jordan, underscoring Indonesia's longstanding commitment to the Palestinian cause and its response to international appeals for active peacebuilding efforts.
