State lawmakers across the United States are ushering in a new era of regulations in 2025. The latest wave of legislation tackles a diverse range of issues including the use of artificial intelligence in entertainment, restrictions on social media (especially concerning child influencers), and significant consumer protections. In California, for example, authorities are clamping down on the use of AI in Hollywood productions and regulating earnings from young social media stars. Meanwhile, reforms affecting minimum wages, gun control, and other social issues are taking shape from coast to coast.

Additional measures reinforce this trend towards sweeping reform. Delaware now requires state health plans to offer abortion services with no cost-sharing, Minnesota has banned binary trigger guns, and Kentucky has legalized medical marijuana. In other states, including New Jersey and Illinois, new laws have been introduced—such as the criminalization of deceptive AI-generated media and an increase in minimum wage standards—that will take effect on or around January 1, 2025. Although some of these laws are already facing legal challenges, they collectively highlight a nationwide push for modernization in social, technological, and economic policy.
