At a United Nations Security Council meeting on April 8, U.S. acting Ambassador Dorothy Shea warned that the United States will not tolerate bad faith negotiations or violations of commitments intended to end the war in Ukraine. This stern message followed a deadly Russian missile strike in Kryvyi Rih that killed 20 civilians, including nine children, undermining ongoing ceasefire efforts.
During the meeting, Russian Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia maintained that the missile had targeted Ukrainian forces while reaffirming Moscow’s objective to demilitarize Ukraine. Ukrainian deputy Ambassador Khrystyna Hayovyshyn noted that Kyiv had agreed to a U.S.-proposed 30-day ceasefire, though Russia's continued military actions added further complications to reaching a durable peace agreement.
