On April 6, 2025, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with British and French military leaders in Kyiv to discuss deploying a European-led peacekeeping force in response to renewed Russian aggression. The proposed force, which may number between 10,000 and 30,000 troops, is viewed as a key component in strengthening Ukraine’s military deterrence ahead of planned defense discussions in Brussels.

The meeting comes amid escalating violence, including a recent missile strike in Kryvyi Rih that killed 18 people, among them nine children, and injured dozens. While Russian officials claimed the attack targeted military personnel, Ukrainian leaders and international observers condemned the strike for its devastating impact on civilians. Zelenskyy also voiced frustration over muted criticism from the U.S. embassy, calling for a stronger international stance against the aggression.
