Israel Expands Gaza Annexation and Deploys Additional Troops

Israeli forces have intensified their offensive in Gaza by annexing broad areas, deploying additional troops, and establishing a new military corridor, amid mounting casualties and ongoing humanitarian blockades.

On April 2, 2025, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the annexation of broad areas in Gaza to expand Israeli security zones, alongside the deployment of more soldiers in the south. The military operation has intensified with strikes, including an attack on a UNRWA clinic in the Jabalia refugee camp that housed 700 displaced civilians, resulting in at least 22 deaths among children, women, and the elderly.

In addition to territorial expansion, a new military corridor has been established to further fragment the Gaza Strip and pressure Hamas. The offensive, which resumed after the ceasefire ended on March 18, has already caused over a thousand deaths, including more than 300 children, while the blockade of humanitarian aid continues to exacerbate shortages of food and medical supplies. Families of the 59 living Israeli hostages have criticized the prioritization of territorial gains over their release.
