On November 9, 2023, the Big 12 Conference announced plans to add beach volleyball and women’s lacrosse beginning in the 2024-25 academic year. With this move, the conference now sponsors 25 sports—including 15 for women—with beach volleyball teams from Arizona, Arizona State, TCU, and Utah set to compete for national titles.

Further updates in February 2024 revealed that, in addition to full members like Arizona State, Colorado, and Cincinnati in women’s lacrosse, several affiliate members including Florida, San Diego State, and UC Davis will join the competition. Commissioner Brett Yormark highlighted the national growth of these sports and emphasized that the move will expand the league’s footprint while providing more teams the opportunity to contend for championships.
