The Big 12 Conference is exploring the possibility of expanding its league schedule to 20 games for the 2024-25 season, making it the second Power-5 conference to move in this direction after the Big Ten. This proposal comes on the heels of significant conference realignment, with the league set to expand to 16 teams after the upcoming basketball season. New members including BYU, UCF, Cincinnati, Houston, Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah will join the conference as Texas and Oklahoma depart for the SEC.
Additional details have emerged from the recently released men's basketball schedule for the new 16-team setup. The schedule, effective from December 30, 2024, through March 8, 2025, features a 20-game format designed with geography, historical matchups, and coach polls in mind. The season will culminate in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship held in Kansas City from March 11-15, 2025.
