On April 9, the San Diego Padres placed center fielder Jackson Merrill on the injured list after he suffered a strained right hamstring. Manager Mike Schildt noted that while the injury is not deemed serious, Merrill will require at least 10 days of rest to prevent a more prolonged absence.

Merrill, 21, has been in impressive form this season, boasting a .378 average along with three home runs and 10 RBIs in 10 games following his standout rookie year and securing a nine-year, $135 million contract extension. In response, the Padres recalled Oscar Gonzalez from Triple-A El Paso to fill his roster spot, while second baseman Jake Cronenworth and right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. also exited the game against the Athletics due to injuries.
