On April 14, 2025, mediators Egypt and Qatar presented a new Israeli ceasefire proposal to Hamas aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Israel’s proposal calls for Hamas to disarm, a stipulation that senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri has already deemed unacceptable. Hamas maintains that any ceasefire must be accompanied by a complete Israeli military withdrawal and an end to all hostilities.
Recent talks in Cairo have not led to any breakthroughs despite the backdrop of severe humanitarian crises and continuous military operations since the previous ceasefire ended in March. With over 1,500 Palestinian deaths and 59 Israeli hostages still in captivity (only 24 of whom are believed to be alive), the situation remains one of mounting tension and uncertainty as each side holds firm to its demands.
