Figure, a U.S.-based AI robotics company, has enhanced the walking capabilities of its humanoid robot, Figure 02. Using reinforcement learning and thousands of simulated robots in physics environments, the company has refined its robot's human-like gait. The model, which first perfected its movements in virtual simulations, was successfully transferred to a physical robot that now exhibits coordinated foot and arm movements. This update was highlighted in a recent promotional video.
The advancement is part of Figure’s ongoing strategy to optimize robot interactions in real-world scenarios, with initial tests taking place at a BMW facility in 2024. Alongside competitors such as Apptronik and Agility Robotics, Figure is pioneering a trend toward enhanced human-robot collaboration in industrial settings. The improved capabilities of Figure 02 pave the way for broader deployment in factories and other commercial applications, setting a new benchmark in the rapidly evolving field of humanoid robotics.
