Boston is set to transform its 75-year-old White Stadium with a $200 million renovation that will serve as the home for the new professional women’s soccer team, BOS Nation FC, debuting in 2026. The project, spearheaded by Mayor Michelle Wu, stems from a strategic public-private partnership that includes a 10-year lease agreement with the team. City officials assert that the upgraded facility will not only provide state‐of‐the‐art sports amenities but will also benefit local students and the wider community.
Construction is slated to begin in January 2025 with an expected completion by March 2026. However, the ambitious plan has ignited controversy. Preservationists and environmentalists have raised concerns over the loss of public park space and green areas in Franklin Park, while a lawsuit challenging the renovation is set for trial in March 2025. Despite these challenges, city leaders maintain that this investment is key to revitalizing Boston’s aging infrastructure and boosting local job creation.
