Phillies left-handed pitcher Ranger Suárez is set to start the season on the injured list due to a recurring lower back issue. After experiencing discomfort on March 16 during an intrasquad game, Suárez has not pitched since, prompting management to take a cautious approach. Phillies president of baseball operations, Dave Dombrowski, noted that although Suárez currently feels fine, the team wants to give him adequate time to recover fully before returning to the mound.

Right-handed pitcher Taijuan Walker, 32, will take his place in the rotation. Now in the third year of a four-year contract, Walker has a significant opportunity to capitalize on his starting role. Supplemental reports indicate that Walker could even make his season debut on April 3, hinting at the high expectations placed on him as he steps into the spot left open by Suárez's injury.
